Jana & Michael
(and Latte & Augustus)
Where did Jana & Michael meet?
Jana & Michael met at UC Berkeley on an early morning in January of 2018. Both were studying similar majors and had a strong desire to serve in the Army.
For the most part, they were just acquaintences until August of 2018, when Michael invited Jana to dinner. She said no, because she had a sorority rush event.
Michael tried again and invited Jana to a semi-formal at his fraternity. This time she said yes and since then they have been inseparable.
Where have they been together?
Their relationship has spanned the country.
They briefly lived together in Albany, CA and then again in Columbus, GA for about a year. Jana then moved to Hawaii for over 2 years. During which time Michael would split his time between Hawaii and home with his mom in Pittsburg.
Long distance was never easy. But after 3+ years separate, they now both live in a small 1-bedroom condo San Francisco CA nestled against the Presidio.
What do Jana and Michael like to do together?
Both love exercising, watching live sports, stand-up comedy, going to farmer’s markets and watching movies (if Jana can stay awake).
They have traveled to Japan (twice), Seattle, Boston, Chicago, New York, Hawaii, Flagstaff and Atlanta (“its like a nicer Oakland”).
Most weekends are spent enjoying each other’s company and hanging out with friends when they can, unless the Raiders are playing (Michael forced me to write this).
How did they get all of these furry roommates?
In 2020, Michael and Jana started toying with the idea of adopting a dog. They looked at adoptions pages, but soon realized there was an amazing dog, named Latte, at Aunt Jenny’s home. It didn’t take much convincing, but now this silly dog has been in their lives for over 5 years.
In 2023, Michael and his family came across a litter of stray kittens in Pittsburg, CA. Michael baited the kittens with tuna to see if they can bring some of them to a shelter. One brave and dumb kitten, now named Augustus, went for the bait and he’s been part of the family for almost 2 years now.
Latte and Augustus met each other in April 2025. Although they started out as enemies, they have slowly become agreeable friends, taking afternoon naps together on the couch.
